The Mini Mart story
A neighborhood institution, second generation.
George Sorisho opened Mini Mart in 1975 with his three sons and his brother behind the counter — a butcher who had spent the 1950s and '60s turning around meat departments across Detroit, back on the northwest side to build one of his own.
Fifty years later the family still runs it. All three sons became master butchers; today John Sorisho runs the store with a crew from the neighborhood, many of whom have been on the counter for twenty years or more.
