A family butcher shop that grew on word of mouth — no advertising, just the best product and the best service — until customers were driving in from Belleville, Ypsilanti and the farthest suburbs.
The founder
George Sorisho's rule

George began as a butcher in the 1950s, left for California in 1967, came home in the early '70s and opened his own store on the northwest side. All three of his sons became master butchers.
His son John Sorisho puts it this way: “How do you make the best better? You give the best service.” And the house rule for the counter: “Don't sell your customers something you wouldn't want.”
1950s
George Sorisho starts cutting meat in Detroit and is hired to turn around struggling grocery meat departments across the city.
1975
George opens Mini Mart at 16435 W. McNichols with his three sons and his brother as the original crew.
2001
The Turkey Chop is born at the counter — an Amish turkey breast cut thick on the bone. The family calls every other one a knock-off.
Today
Second generation. John Sorisho runs the store with a neighborhood crew, many with twenty-plus years behind the counter.
